X-Calibur

AES Raptor X-Calibur™
Single-Man Fall Protection System

Frequently Asked Questions

ARE THE REMOVABLE WEIGHTS REQUIRED FOR PROPER USE?
Yes. The Unit weights and the Outrigger weights are an integral part of the design and workings of the
X‐Calibur and must be installed while using the X‐Calibur. The Weights are designed to be removable in order to reduce weight for transport.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
If a fall were to occur, the X‐Calibur’s Patent‐Pending Roof Safety Engagement Device penetrates the
roof, creating a secure anchor point to restrain or arrest the fall.

HOW MANY MEN CAN ATTACH TO THE X‐CALIBUR?
One man in fall arrest and one man in fall restraint.  Therefore two men can attach to the X-Calibur at any one time.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FALL ARREST AND FALL RESTRAINT?
Fall arrest is the stopping of a fall in progress. Fall restraint is to stop before it occurs.

IS THE X‐CALIBUR OSHA APPROVED?
OSHA regulations and standards are established as the criteria to be met in the design of products. The X-Calibur is manufactured to comply with all relevant OSHA regulations, including OSHA Regulation 1926.502(d) for fall arrest anchors.

WHERE DO I HOOK UP TO ON THE X‐CALIBUR ?
A single ring is welded to a green plate located in the center on one front of the X‐Calibur.

R1000ARE THERE ANY PARTS THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED OR RE‐CERTIFIED IF THERE IS AN ACTIVATION OF THE SYSTEM?
Yes.  If the unit is involved in a fall, the two (2) bronze bushings located where the engagement arm is attached to the frame must be replaced.  The gas shock must be replaced as well.  If the activation is strong enough, the engagement claw may stick in the substrate.  Contact AES Raptor, LLC at toll-free 888-990-2990 for replacement parts.  After rescue is complete, dislodge the claw from the substrate and the engagement arm will return to its ready position. A competent individual must inspect the unit for any damage and to insure that the engagement arm moves in an uninhibited manner. The X-Calibur may be repositioned and used again.

CAN I USE THE XCALIBUR ON UNFINISHED ROOF SYSTEM OR BARE METAL DECK?
No, the X‐Calibur is design and tested on finished roof systems only.

WHAT TYPE OF TIRES ARE INSTALLED ON THE X‐CALIBUR?
All X‐Calibur’s come standard with Solid Polyurethane Tires.

WHAT DOES THE X‐CALIBUR WEIGH?
The assembled working weight of the X‐Calibur is 412 pounds. The main unit weighs 159 pounds with the unit weights and removed. The top unit weights are 71.5 pounds each (2 per unit). The side unit weights are 55 pounds each (2 per unit.)

CAN THE ENGAGEMENT SYSTEM BE INSTALLED ON THE ROOFING CARTS I ALREADY OWN?
No. The AES X‐Calibur is specifically designed and tested to operate in combination with the Roof
Safety Engagement Device. A fabricated roofing cart would not comply with OSHA regulations without
proper testing and certification, thus subjecting the workers and owners to potential hazards and fines.
